How to not waste your summer by spending it doing nothing

Denise Ibarra, Staff Reporter

It is finally the time of year when school ends for summer break. With school being over, it means you have a whole lot of days free to yourself. Although the first few days of summer break is the time you use just to relax and have a mental break and regroup yourself, it starts to get boring quickly. The days begin to feel repetitive and so you start to think of some ways you can entertain yourself and enjoy your summer to the fullest. Here are some ideas to do with friends or family and  some other ideas to enjoy on your own.

Starting off strong with the most common summer activity is to go swimming. You can plan a day with your friends or family at a beach, communal swimming pool, or if you’re lucky someone you know has a pool in their back yard. This is a perfect way to cool off from the summer heat and is an activity enjoyed by all ages. The next idea is having a picnic at a park with some of your favorite snacks and this is also a great opportunity to take photos for your Instagram to show off how great of a summer you’re having. Another great idea is having a movie night with all your friends. This can be fun either outside or inside. My favorite thing is projecting the movie outside and having a marathon of all my favorite movies.

Although you can have the best time doing activities with your friends and family, its important to know how to enjoy spending quality time with yourself. A great thing you can do on your own is finding a great book to read, baking, painting, taking a walk in the park, or having a self-care day where you do all your favorite things in one day.

There are obviously many different things you can do on your own or with your family and friends, but these are some of my favorite things and most memorable. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new things and learn more about what you like and what you don’t enjoy doing. The most important thing is to create memories with your family, friends, and yourself.
