State? Been there, done that

The St. Edward’s competitive cheer team has had great success this season. They have carried their team to the state finals for the seventh time in the last decade. In addition, this has been the first time in many years that there was a full junior varsity team. As some of the smallest teams in the state, it takes a lot of work and perseverance to get as far as they did.

The JV team had a fantastic season. They worked so hard and put their literal blood, sweat, and tears into this season. They placed first at most of their competitions and made it to ICCA State Finals. At ICCA State, they placed sixth out of the many teams competing. They could not be prouder to represent St. Edward so well.

The varsity team has worked every day this season to push themselves to make it to IHSA State Finals. They have done their best at every competition and practice they were at. The varsity team traveled to Bloomington and finished sixth in the state this year. “We started off this season not doing our best. We weren’t putting 100% in, but then at Conference, we found the drive behind cheer and came back topping our score for the next three competitions in a row. It really was a comeback season and it helped us come together as a team and realize why we do this sport,” says senior Ava Pfeiffer.

Both teams worked hard, but they also had tons of fun and made bonds that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. The coaches Jordan Stratman, Sue Robinson, and Allison Ulmanis could not be prouder of all the hard work both teams put into this season. “What an amazing cheer season!” says Coach Sue Robinson. “The varsity squad won their conference and placed second at sectionals ,earning their bid to state. JV also earned a bid to their state as well. Both teams ended up placing 6th at State! This is a huge accomplishment for both teams.”
