It was an exciting season for the St. Ed’s Golf Team this year! With the fall sport at a close, the team is proud to have a record of 7 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. Coach Paul Netzel says, “It was a good season with a good amount of success”. A number of players are returning next year, which is a good sign for the sport. The boys and girls’ teams had to combine this year because there weren’t enough girls, but Coach Netzel was more than willing to accommodate the changes.

Chris Taing, ’23, said that he enjoyed the season and had a lot of fun.  He thinks he improved in every aspect of his game and was able to drop his score by 10 strokes. “I’m really happy with it because it’s only my second year of playing”, he said with a smile on his face.

Zach Lombardo, ’26, has been playing golf for 4 years, but this is his first time playing the sport at a competitive level. He said that he had fun playing golf at a higher level, and learning how to improve from the upperclassmen. Zach is also proud of his improvements during the season. “I got my score down by improving my shots, which are now more consistent”, he says.

In addition to the improvement of the players, the team took 2nd place at the Larkin Invitational and 2nd place in the conference. Nick Lombardo and Evan Sperling were the top 2 golfers followed by Drew Pemberton, Ivy Burnett, Mike Cozzi, and Zach Lombardo. Nick won the Conference Tournament with Evan finishing in 8th place. Nick qualified for the IHSA Boys Sectional and Ivy qualified for the IHSA Girls Sectional.

The team is proud of these accomplishments, and the coach is incredibly proud of his players. Here’s to a wonderful season, and to the next!
