March Madness 2018 from Phil Welch

The Contenders

Villanova Wildcats

Having won the 2018 regular season and postseason titles, Nova is a team to look out for. Being ranked number 1, I think that they’ll have another remarkable title run. Having a powerhouse offense and players like Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges, they’ll be a hard to stop once they have the momentum. Villanova will probably face they’re toughest match up in the Sweet 16.

Arizona Wildcats

Having the number 4 seed and possessing arguably the best player in the nation, DeAndre Ayton, I think they have a good chance at going far. Although they have had their challenges with regular season opponents, the Wildcats could beat the odds and go all the way.

Teams capable of making a run

Seton Hall Pirates

Ranked number 8 in the tournament, Seton Hall faces adversity being matched against Kansas in the second round. Most people do not believe that the stand a chance but we know that Kansas is susceptible to leave the tournament early. Seton Hall has one of the top seniors in the tournament, Angel Delgato who averages 13.3 points per game. The Pirates left the tournament in the round of 64 the last two years.

Montana Grizzlies

Coming in at the number 14 seed playing the number 3 seed and winning might seem far fetched. But the Grizzlies are feeling optimistic having lost only two games since December 28. Ahmaad Rorie, Michael Oguine and Jamar Akoh are Montana’s star three players who average over 13 points a game and could be the teams shot at surviving the first round of the tournament. Montana will play Michigan in the first round.

Bracket Busters

Loyola Chicago Ramblers

Being in the tournament for the first time since 1985, the Ramblers are hoping for a good run in the tournament. Loyola is ranked number 11 and they are going up against Miami University, ranked number 6. Don’t sleep on Loyola, they have a good chance at making it out of the first round. Players like Cameron Krutwig and Christian Negron will hopefully lead the team to victory.

Providence Friars

Ranked at number 10 people are sweeping Providence under the rug. Providence took down Xavier in the Big East and almost took down Villanova. Senior Kyron Cartwright is the teams stud and I would say that they are depending on his performance to get passed the number 7 seed, Texas A&M.
