The girls 2015-2016 soccer season is almost upon us. Arguably the most successful sport at St. Ed’s for the past couple of years, they are ready to try to carry on the high standard that previous girl soccer teams have set (including a recent a State Finals appearance). It will be a difficult and challenging road ahead, as they only have a handful of players with much experience playing for St. Edward this season. Seniors Ashley Lopez and Gabriella Tripicchio, junior Cecilia Kochanek, and sophomores Taylor Gredzieleski and Madison Knott are going to try to lead a young and inexperienced Lady Wave team to success.

Other key players include seniors Mikaila DiCostanzo, Emma Jacobson, Natalie McQueen, juniors Kiana Horn and Ava Matsas, sophomores Mariel Franco and Yssa Sto. Domingo, and freshmen Lauren Biggins, Marae Costello, Anaih De Leon, Gabrielle deWindt, Madalynn Duffy, Kathleen Ellsworth, Anissa Gomez, Rachel Hicks, Hailey Niehaus, MacKenzie O’Connell, and Caroline Spagnola.

When asked about the biggest challenges for the season, senior Ashley Lopez commented, “I think the biggest challenge would be that we almost have an entirely new starting line/team. We’re going to have to work on building chemistry with each other all over again!”The Lady Wave lost ten seniors due to graduation last year. Those seniors played a majority of minutes for last year’s Regional championship team. The new wave of players will definitely be part of the challenge that the team will face when working to develop chemistry.Lopez also commented, “We have a younger team with talent and a lot of potential to grow but at the same time we have a good group of upper classmen to help when needed.”The Lady Wave certainly has a lot of talent to maybe upset some teams. They hear the doubters but Coach Brieger isn’t fazed. Key matches include those against  ACC, Glenbard South, and ICCP, but the Lady Wave are ready to quiet the doubters. The girls will play their home games on the newly sodded Greg True Field. Come out and shout, “Let’s go Wave!”
