Where small things lead

The countdown that once felt endless is now down to its final days. Some days, we’ve wished it would all be over so we could move on, and step into adulthood. But now, graduation is approaching quickly. What once felt like an endless routine now strangely feels comforting because of how familiar it is. It’s a bittersweet realization that the life we’ve known for so long is coming to an end, and in a matter of moments, it will become something we can’t go back to. For the first time, we’re the ones deciding where our lives lead next. We have the power to pave the road ahead and decide what memories we will carry with us for the journey.

“It’s such a shame for us to part. Nobody said it was easy. No one ever said it would be this hard. Oh, take me back to the start.”  This line from “The Scientist” by Coldplay captures what many of us are only now beginning to understand as we reach the finale. Senior year isn’t just about the countdown; it’s about the realization of what you’re leaving behind. The friendships, routines, and memories we once took for granted are starting to feel different as the end gets closer. Moving forward may be exciting, but it also carries the weight of emotional memories we’ve taken for granted along the way.

These memories aren’t just individual moments on a timeline; they’re made up of the everyday experiences that shaped the last four years, like rushing through Door 10 before having to walk all the way around to the front, seeing familiar faces every day, or complaining about what felt like the worst assignment or test in econ or math class. Friday nights under the lights, where wins were rare but memorable, and even the most exhausting days now blend into something we’ll one day look back on differently. What once felt stressful, or routine is becoming something we’ll miss because it shaped the rhythm of our lives for the past 13 years.

We’re stepping into a moment where the path ahead is entirely ours to choose. It feels like we have the whole world in our hands, endless possibilities, new places, and new versions of ourselves waiting to be discovered. But with that freedom comes a quiet realization, there’s no going back to being a kid again. You will never find yourself in the same hallway as each other again, so cherish the small things. The structure we’ve known our whole lives, where life was planned out in semesters and schedules slowly starts to disappear, replaced by uncertainty and independence. As exciting as it is to move forward, it also means closing the door on a version of life we can never return to no matter how much we might want to. The road ahead may be uncertain and at times difficult, but every step especially, the harder ones, builds towards a bigger picture of success so embrace it all.

“I ain’t a kid no more. We’ll never be those kids again.” -Frank Ocean
