Señora Roimicher is a sweet and fun Spanish teacher and the moderator of the Spanish Club. She started teaching Spanish at College of DuPage, a community college, eleven and a half years ago as an adjunct professor. While teaching at community colleges, she had high school students in her classes who told her that she would be a good high school teacher. She then found an opening for a Spanish teacher at a private high school in downtown Chicago, where she was able to become a full-time Spanish teacher. Señora Roimicher then changed her career from college level Spanish to teaching at the high school level. “I fell in love with teaching high school, and I’ve taught in high schools ever since.” She likes teaching high schoolers so much because she loves getting students ready for the real world and for college. She also loves teaching Spanish because she loves teaching, not only language, but also her culture to others.
Señora Roimicher attended Northeastern Illinois University where she studied Spanish as a major and Flamenco, a type of Spanish dance, as a minor. Her favorite things to do outside of work are spending time with her friends and family and dancing, which she cannot do right now because she has been injured but is excited to get back to once she has recovered. The best gift she had received was her friends and family helping her throughout her injury and her recovery.
Señora Roimicher’s favorite musical artist is Adele. “She has a beautiful voice and captivates you when she sings.” Advice she would give high school students is to look for classes that interest you and not to wait until after high school to find what you are interested in. She does not believe that students must choose their major before they go to college, but they should find different fields that they enjoy before they graduate so that they are able to know more quickly what they want to do. She is passionate and ready to continue sharing her culture and teaching Spanish to her students.
