Our St. Edward Mascot, Johnny Greenwave, is being looked to be replaced. Several complaints have been made by students, parents, and other schools we have played in sports. They feel that our mascot is too aggressive looking. One student who wished to remain anonymous said, “I just feel like Johnny is too mean looking, that shouldn’t be the representation of our school.” A student who attends a high school in our conference said, “Mascots should not be aggressive like St. Edward’s. It threw me off when I first saw it.”

While no one has brought up a replacement for Johnny, the St. Edward school board had a meeting to talk about this issue.  They decided that the student body will be voting for a new mascot.  The voting will take place sometime in April, though a date hasn’t been decided yet.
