Baking Basics: Holiday shaped chocolate brownies

Want to bake something that is easy yet creative at the same time? Well, this recipe allows you to do both. The main base for this recipe is warm chocolate brownies with extra touches of fun holiday decorations. You are given all creative freedom when making these special treats, from the shape to the decoration you choose. The possibilities are endless, you can make them into shapes of gingerbread men, Christmas trees, or stars.

Like cookies, brownies are one of the best desserts for any occasion. They can be done in one bowl or in the brownie pan itself. You will have less time worrying about the mess and more time creating your own masterpiece. The benefit that comes from creating such an easy dessert is that you can do it with all ages whether it is with a child or best friend. “They travel well and make a great treat for a Christmas party!” according to Debbie Chapman from One Little Project.

Ingredients  

½ cup of canola oil

1 ¼ cups of granulated sugar

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup natural cocoa powder

¾ cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs

2 tablespoons water

½ cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. Pour the oil into the 8×8-inch metal baking pan and evenly coat the bottom of the pan and sides.
  3. Add the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the pan first.
  4. Add the eggs and water directly into the baking pan, then stir.
  5. Add the chocolate chips by stirring them in and sprinkling some on top.
  6. Spread the batter into an even layer.
  7. Bake for 25-28 minutes. Once time is up insert a toothpick in the middle and if it comes out clean then it is done.
  8. Cool the brownies for 15-18 minutes.
  9. Take your cookie cutters and press into the cooled brownies to form the desired shape.
  10. Place them on a plate and decorate with any type of frosting, icing, and sprinkles. Enjoy!
