Many of you are most likely not old enough to vote yet but don’t let that discourage you from thinking that you don’t have a voice in the future. This year more than ever is more important to inform your parents and friends about the importance of voting. Everyone has to vote for a better future and a candidate you believe that can fulfill what they say. A quote from the movie Mulan says “A grain of rice can tip the scales.” Every vote counts, and don’t think that it doesn’t.

In a primary election, registered voters may participate in choosing the candidate for the party’s nomination by voting through a secret ballot. This happens before every Presidential Election to filter our candidates. In this year’s primary for Illinois it will be held on March 17, which is also St. Patrick’s day, don’t let the holiday distract you from voting. This day is very important. Voters must register by mail February 18, and online by February 29. Illinois also has the option to register in person up to and on Election Day. This means that even if the deadlines for registration have passed you can still vote.

Voter Identification Laws in Effect in 2020 in Illinois is that No document required to vote at the voting location if one is registered prior to the primary voting day. If you haven’t registered to vote prior you will have to show two forms of ID at an early voting location, or on election day at their polling place.

To Vote in Illinois you must:

– be a citizen of the US
– be a resident of Illinois
– You must be 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General Election.
– You must live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
– not be in jail for a felony conviction (but you can vote if you have completed your sentence)
– not vote anywhere else

All you have to do is go to your local polling station and vote! Don’t be discouraged and let your voice be heard.
