Hitting the Books
December 12, 2017
If you like reading books and hanging out with intellectual minds, Book Club is right for you! This club is run by Ms. Rodman, the Junior literature teacher right here at St. Ed’s. Book club meets in room 123, every other Monday from 2:50-3:30 PM. If you can’t make it to the meetings, don’t worry! There is an online component of the club, using discussion boards on Goodreads.com.
This club covers a wide range of books all the way from “Lord of the Flies”, to a newer YA book “Turtles All the Way Down”. Members get to nominate books they are interested in to be a possibility for the next selection. Those books are then put into Goodreads by Ms. Rodman and are voted on by the members to see what the club will talk about the next meeting.
“It’s no secret that I love reading; it’s an exercise in imagination and empathy unlike any other artistic medium. But it’s easy for me to get too bogged down in reading for school, just like my students, so it’s nice to get to talk books without worrying about writing worksheets or tests. Plus, I tend to stick to one particular genre or type of book and never expand my horizons, so getting recommendations and motivation from the Book Club members has gotten me excited about books I never would have given a shot on my own!” explained Ms. Rodman.
If you’re interested in this, new members are always welcome. After Christmas break, Book Club will be meeting Monday, January 8th.
