Every year German Club takes their annual trip downtown Chicago to the Christkindlmarket. This year, 37 German Club members plus six adults took the 8:42AM train to the Chicago on Dec. 2. After the long morning train ride, they then walked to Daley Plaza, located in the loop, where the Christkindlmarket is held. The Club members were some of the first in line to enter the market at 11 am.

The club stayed for three hours, experiencing everything from the good bratwurst, warm traditional pretzels, delicious German chocolate and cute little shops. Many enjoyed the traditional bratwurst with sauerkraut and sweet mustard. Even if you didn’t enjoy the bratwurst, the candy house was a hit! The house was filled with all kinds of candy, including the famous German chocolate and caramelized nuts. Many students who visited the candy house spent well over $20!

The products in the little shops range from carved wood home decor to famous German beer steins! A couple of the shops were overpriced but you could always find something at the next booth. The most popular store at the market is the “Ornament Shop.” This little store is filled with hundreds of different ornaments. A line wraps around the store and it is a little over a 5 minute wait to get in!

The Christkindlmarket attracts more than 1 million people from all around the Chicagoland area.  The market is packed with many people. The club enjoyed a nice day downtown at the Christkindlmarket.
