A new rivalry has dropped into the car community. Most companies have dropped the production of gas engines; they have been put on hold and possibly gone forever. Mostly every car company has suspended gas production over the past few years, which greatly impacted the flow of the economy and their brand. However, Ford and General Motors did not fully switch to full EV production; they decided to tackle a bigger challenge. This is what has helped them continue their dominance over the past few years. They decided to focus on their performance and racing branches and tackle foreign competition.
Ford has continued to put out vehicles with a V8 and added some new vehicles to their V8 fleet. Their trucks continued to have their V8 engine but made a slight change. Ford added their V8 engine back to their Raptor and called it the Raptor R. They also added the newest V8 the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8. It was added to Ford’s Super Duty, E-series and F-series vehicles. Ford was also the only company to not kill off their muscle car, for it got bigger and better with its performance branch.
Ford continued to go into the performance industry of the car world. The new Mustang GTD was built and designed to be a track weapon instead of straight lines. The car was built to rival Porche’s 911 GT3 RS. It was designed to out perform McLaren’s 750s, and Aston Martin’s Vantage. General Motors came out with its competitor to the GTD, the C8 ZR1, which beat GTD’s lap time at the Nürburgring by 6.92 seconds. This set the stage for the competition.
Ford and General Motors both decided to rival Porches with different variants of the 911. Chevy’s base model is the Stingray 1LT that comes with a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 490 horsepower and 465 ft-lbs of torque. Ford still needs to work on making their base model Mustang back to a V8. It is currently the Ford eco boost with a turbo charged 2.3 liter inline 4 engine with 310 horsepower and 350 ft-lbs of torque. The base model for the Porche 911 is the 911 Carrera, which also does not have a V8, but it comes with a 3.0-liter flat 6 with 379 horsepower and 590 ft-lbs of torque.
Ford and General Motors have so far succeeded in their rivalry with Porche’s 911 fleet and choose to continue this rivalry and work on their performance and racing branches. Ford’s best performance vehicle is their Mustang GTD which has a 5.2-liter V8 with 815 horsepower and 664 ft-lbs of torque. General Motors’ best corvette is the C8 ZR1X which has two front axle-mounted electric motors and a twin turbo charged 5.5L V8 which has 1,250 horsepower with 828 ft-lbs of torque. The car Ford and General Motors want to target is a Porche 911 turbo S which has a 3.6-liter twin turbo flat six engine with 701 horsepower and 590 ft-lbs of torque. This challenge is going to be here for many years to come, and new rivalries are to come.
