The last entry in the Conjuring universe, The Conjuring: Last Rites, is the final mission of the Warrens and their last story to tell. The movie, directed by Michael Chaves, who also directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Do It, brought back spiritual life to the fans. The first two movies may be simple, but the last one brought plenty of suspense and memorable scares.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as Lorraine and Ed Warren for the last time. They were in the other three movies, such as the first movie, The Conjuring, which was a good movie due to the strong atmosphere that it created; it gave the viewers a chilling sense to keep them on edge. Now, the characters take it another step to give one last hurrah. The newest film does a good job of building suspense while still providing a strong emotional core. There are countless moments in the movie that build up suspense to jump scares that will make you jump out of your seat. There are some genuinely creepy moments that will stick with you, even when you sleep at night. The acting from the movie will give you a strong connection to the characters, especially when they embody their characters in their investigations on the paranormal or set such a good scene that transports the viewers to the 1980s.
This will be the ending of this franchise. “I thought it was an incredible opportunity,” said director Michael Chaves. Even though it was the last movie, Chaves was sad to be done with this series of movies. But he gets to see the successes that the movie brings.
While it’s a solid horror film, it will make you feel connected to the characters in an emotional way. When my friend and I went to see it, her honest opinion was “Although it was the last movie they would make of the Conjuring, it made me cry because of the emotional ending it had.” Some online viewers have noted that certain plot points don’t get a full resolution, and a few character decisions might have you scratching your head. The pacing can feel a bit slow at times, particularly in the first half, which focuses on building a high quality backstory. But overall, even the creepy scenes can be in fact appealing, even if they look unfaltering to you.
Overall, The Conjuring: Last Rites delivers the scares to everyone. The emotional parts will get you the most, but they are the most important part in the movie. Horror fans will make the best of it and make sure they have great experience. So, go take a friend and enjoy the thrill of the new Conjuring movie.
