Each year, a new wave of students enter the halls of St. Edward, ready to make their mark. We decided to host a column with each edition of The Edge this year to introduce the new freshmen.

Tomas Wade-Ramirez is an athlete with a passion for both football and basketball, but he also has a creative side—he enjoys cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. His favorite food is sushi, and his favorite color is black, which fits his bold personality.
If Tomas could change the world, the first thing he’d do is get rid of racism. He believes people need to be kinder to each other, and that kindness could make a huge difference. So far this school year, what he enjoys most is how cool and friendly everyone has been.
When asked what food he would be, Tomas chose a falafel—because “It’s big, round, interesting, and tasty”, much like his own unique personality. He looks up to LeBron James, not only because basketball is such a big part of his life, but also because LeBron is his all-time favorite player.

Hank Brightbill is the responsible, eldest sibling of two. He plays many sports, such as baseball, basketball, and golf, where finds enjoyment in each of them. His favorite food would be “a good cheeseburger”, and his favorite color is orange.
If Hank could get rid of anything in the world, he would get rid of essays. They are something that he strongly dislikes and never looks forward to at school; he would also love if they were shorter. He enjoys the school environment and how it’s small and easy to get to know everyone. If he could be a food, he would be “a fry, just a French fry”. Hank looks up to his parents because they help him strive to do his best and work hard in what he does. He likes the school and doesn’t have anything he would change about it, well besides the essays. He is looking forward to hanging out with friends at school events and the overall high school experience. Hank is ready to see what the year brings and has the support to do his absolute best.

Braelyn Wilmot finds a lot of enjoyment in her favorite sports, volleyball and basketball. Braelyn would say her favorite food is spaghetti, and her favorite color is red. If she would get rid of one thing in the world, she would get rid of spiders “I hate spiders” she says. Braelyn wouldn’t change anything about the school; she likes hanging out with her friends and experiencing everything with them, along with playing her sports at school.
Braelyn really enjoys the internet stars, Sam and Colby, who she also looks up too. Sam and Colby are people she has been watching since she was young, and the mysterious entertainment strikes her interest and creativity. She is looking forward to upcoming school events and all the interesting things they bring along the way. She is excited to see how her and her friends will grow through out high school and all fun things in the process.

George Prosser is a fun and unique person with a lot of personality. He loves going on vacations, especially when they give him the chance to relax and spend time with the people he cares about. Sports have always been part of his life—he plays basketball now and used to play baseball. His favorite food is pancakes, and his favorite color is purple, which definitely shows off his bold side.
If George could change the world in small ways, the first thing he’d do is get rid of homework. If he could change his school, he’d make it only two hours long instead of eight. Later, he admitted he’d also get rid of politics because of how much it has affected his family relationships.
When asked what food he’d be, George first said fried chicken but later switched his answer to a milkshake—because, as he explained, he can be sweet. He looks up to both his grandpa and his dad. His grandpa inspires him, and his dad has shaped him into the man he’s becoming. Looking ahead, George is excited about all the upcoming activities and everything the future has to offer.

Grant Brunner is someone who feels most at home in the great outdoors. Whether he’s out fishing or just spending time in nature, that’s where he finds peace. In the past, he’s been active in many sports, such as, lacrosse, football, basketball, and volleyball. His favorite color is dark green, and when it comes to food, nothing beats chicken sandwiches—especially a McChicken from McDonald’s.
If Grant could change the world, the first thing to go would be taxes. If he could change school, it would definitely be homework, so he’d have more time for the things he enjoys. He loves the school year so far, especially because of the friends he has made.
When asked what food he would be, Grant first said a buffet, because as he explained, “I am everything.” Later, he changed his answer to a tortilla, because, in his words, “good things come from them, therefore good things come from me.”
Grant looks up to his friends, especially George, whom he describes as “a very nice, kind person. He loves everybody. He has no hate in the world.” Talking about his friendships with both Tomas and George, Grant said, “Both these kids came into my life within two months and they’re already great friends with me. They’ve shown me so much more than I already know.”
Fishing, friendship, and enjoying life—those are the things that matter most to Grant.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know our first freshmen five. Stay tuned for our next freshmen to be featured!
