Whispers upon the freshman hall. Music notes travel from the theater. Some say it’s the speakers, others say it’s haunted, but truly, there’s only one simple explanation.
Not long ago, four boys stepped into the spotlight and instantly became known as the Shamrock Shakers. Their excitement buzzed in the air. A spark went around the room. Then, from the shadows of the stage the Shamrock Shakers emerged. The lead singer, Christian Buljan, enchants those with his words of love, along with his twin, Christian Kolia. Calvin Gonzalez energizes the atmosphere with his guitar, while Kayne McCauley propels the rhythm by playing the drums and hitting the jig. These young talents swept girls off their feet from the United States all the way to Ireland, sprouting a fan base as vibrant as their music itself.
When the Shamrock Shakers staged their debut performance last March in Dublin, Ireland, the crowd went wild, leading the boys to achieve platinum status almost overnight. The boys knew they had to keep calm and remain secretive at school.
As early as freshman orientation, they found themselves grappling with the challenge of keeping their second identities hidden, often being caught in the act by the freshman class eager to uncover their secrets.
A wave of rumors circulated when Calvin was seen being picked up by a luxurious limousine near Greg True Field. Giuliana Bens ’28 claims, “I saw Calvin and Kayne walk toward the field, both looking anxious and on edge.” Just days later, the Christians were spotted in a similar situation. The ever-pressing question remained: where could they possibly be headed?
The answer is: to success and fame. The journey was a tidal wave, crashing over them as their popularity exploded. One minute they were wrestling with algebra, the next, running on stage to greet thousands of fans. Their teachers and friends noticed subtle changes, such as the glimmers of excitement in their eyes when a new music video dropped or slight alterations in their schedules. But the boys were determined to keep their secret intact, even if it meant listening to the gossip of their friends.
The awkward stares, the whispers – they endured it all, bound together by the thrill of their success, the shared passion for their music, and an unbreakable friendship that blossomed during the ride to fame. It was an adventure only they could understand, a unique and extraordinary bond the Shamrock Shakers created Now that their secret is out, rumor has it that an unexpected performance is to occur during Student Council Week. Allegedly, they are to announce a new and upcoming album called LONG LIVE SHAMROCK featuring FM SHROOM, available in the McDonald’s near you for a limited time only.
