Ford has exceeded their expectations for the year 2024. Ford made it on the podium for the big three types of powered vehicles in the country. Ford was number one for gas-powered vehicles sold in the United States, number two for electric-powered vehicles sold in The United States and third for Hybrid vehicles sold. Overall, globally, Ford was one of the best performers in the United States.
Ford did very well in 2024. They decided earlier in the year to cut down the mass production of electric vehicles because they had too many sitting around, which was a problem when rolling out new products. Ford had lost a total of $4 billion on EVs in 2023. They even suspended their $12 Billion 2024 EV facility in Kentucky. With this, Ford was able to regain some traction after the suspension, seeing as combustion engines were in high demand.
Ford had America’s best-selling vehicle in 2024, which was the F-150 truck. The new base models have a 3.2-liter EcoBoost V6. The engine produces high power at a fraction of burning fuel. The new engine is designed for having good fuel efficiency and being a tough truck. The truck has been America’s bestselling truck for over 46 years. Ford also has had the bestselling vehicle of any type for 41 years. Ford said, “we were selling a truck every 49 seconds.” However, they did not sell more trucks than Toyota last year.
Ford did really well when it came to selling EVs last year. However, in 2023 they did not perform too well in selling mass production of EVs. They used 2023 as a learning curve to slow down production and sell some that were in storage and previous production lines. The only company that sold more than Ford was Tesla, of course. Tesla sold 562,516 vehicles last year between the model Y and model 3. Ford sold 97,865 units of EVs, and its top performer was the Mach-E. All of Ford’s EV sales were significantly higher, when reviewing the percentages. The Mach- E was up 27%, F-150 Lightning was up 39%, and the E-Transit was up 64% from last year. They out-performed fellow American auto manufacturers, GM and Stellantis in EV sales in the US. General Motors is an American auto manufacture. That crown now belongs to Stellantis, which manufactures Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.
Ford had huge control over the markets and categories. Their Hybrids are a great blend of EV and gasoline. They topped the charts with their Hybrid sales, being the highest they’ve been in a while. The sales were up 40% from the previous year and they sold 187,426 hybrids in 2024, which is astounding.
Ford’s 2024 was immaculate and had many peaks. Ford doubled its units sold in 2024 compared to 2023. Their worldwide sales were great; they sold 2.079 million vehicles. Ford was able to sell more vehicles than General Motors but sold fewer than Tesla. Ford is one company who will dominate the auto market for years to come. 2024 was just the beginning of much more, especially for 2025.
