This debate is an ongoing issue for high school students all throughout the country. Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are considered the big two when it comes to fast-food coffee shops. While Starbucks is known for luxury coffee and its delicious bakery items, Dunkin is known for its speed and delicious donuts. Teenagers and adults every day make the hard and testing decision of Dunkin or Starbucks: which one will help start the day off right? 

In a collected effort, a poll among St. Edward students ended this debate. In a series of four questions ranging from which food, drinks, and prices are better, students decided their preferred stop before school. When asked whether they prefer Starbucks or Dunkin drinks, Starbucks overwhelmingly won with a solid 88%; however, when asked whether they prefer Starbucks or Dunkin food, Dunkin won with 57%. Now you may think that because of these results this poll might end in a tie, but most people who go to Starbucks or Dunkin purchase drinks over food. So, while Dunkin just barely won the food category, Starbucks’ drink score being at 88% means an automatic victory for them.  

When asked which they went to more often, Starbucks won again with a tight score of 57%. Jordin Sauls, ’26, summed up her decision by explaining, “Dunkin is more convenient because it is much more affordable, but with the high-quality items at Starbucks, it makes it more appealing to customers”.  Finally, when asked, the student body replied that Starbucks is 63% better than Dunkin Donuts. While it may seem that the debate is settled now, however, it is extremely clear that due to the statistics, it is purely based on opinion. When I asked the student body if they had any additional comments, a multitude of them replied with their favorite orders from both places, some even with orders for different coffee shops and a proclamation on how they prefer going to other places. The only real conclusion here is how different people are and how each person likes different things.  

Now the winner of this battle of the coffee shops goes to Starbucks, but not without a strong fight from Dunkin. Congratulations to Starbucks for being the best coffee shop decided by the St. Edward student body; it is a true honor.
