Thanksgiving is the time to give thanks and appreciate all your loved ones. It is the one holiday that is extremely food-based, and people show up with different dishes, including their favorite ones. There are many different things you can make or bring to a Thanksgiving table, for example, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, bread rolls, etc. Here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving plates:
Main dish:
Turkey is a classic and for most people it will be their main dish. You can prepare it in any way that you like, which will give it perfect taste. Now, even though majority of people agree with turkey being the best, some people disagree and prefer something else, for example ham, fish, or even vegetarian options. Sara Gonzales, ’25, says, “Ham is better than turkey because it has more flavor.”
Classic side dish:
Mashed potatoes are the most essential part of Thanksgiving dinner. This is the iconic dish that goes with every food, and it will make your meal better. The key to making the best mashed potatoes is adding butter. Not only is this my favorite dish, but it is my favorite of many of my friends and families. Sara Heffelfinger, ’27, says, “Mashed potatoes are a necessity.”
Favorite dessert:
If pumpkin pie was all year round, I’d probably be the happiest person ever. This is the perfect dessert to end Thanksgiving dinner because it gives you the last taste of fall before everything turns into Christmas. Apple pie is another classic and you can always enjoy this with apple cider. Any dessert works out, but if it is a homemade pie or dessert, make sure to thank that person even more because they put dedication into making the perfect treat.
Although many people love Thanksgiving because of all the food they can eat, it’s especially important to remember to give thanks to your family and friends. These people are put into your life for a reason, and this is a great opportunity to meet up with those loved ones and remind them how much you care and love them.
