The well-known and beloved fall drink has recently caused nation-wide panic. Many people have started to make a spooky connection to pumpkin spice lattes. Anyone who drank a pumpkin spice latte and then went to a Halloween-themed event, turned into the thing that they wore as a costume. For example, one person who drank a latte in the morning and went to a party dressed as Marty McFly at night, woke up the next day as the character Marty McFly. Many scientists, the CDC, and the FDA have been working tirelessly to study this phenomenon. There are some people who have started to take advantage of this costume spectacle. There have been some people who have dressed in costumes to turn into to benefit themselves or their lives. For example, one person dressed as a millionaire and drank a latte. Another person dressed up as a doctor and is now employed in a hospital, without having to go to medical school. Sophie Holland ’26 dressed up as a zombie for Halloween this year. “I am so glad I don’t like pumpkin spice because turning into a zombie could have been a disaster,” she commented about the possible outcome of drinking a latte.
There has been a lot of panic over this spooky situation. No spice companies can come up with an explanation nor can the coffee shops. Many coffee shops have seen their numbers drop dramatically because people are scared of the long-term effects or the thought of not being able to change back. This has caused some local, small coffee shops to have to close because they are not getting enough business. Many people fear that this will happen with other holiday drinks. They are also afraid that this is a one-time circumstance and once the latte goes away because it is out of season, they will never be able to turn back to themselves. Beware of the tricks that may come with your treats!
