After about fifteen months of construction, the Fox Family Performing Arts Center is ready to go with its first school theatre production. The students of St. Edward will be performing a showing of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This play is full of truly mad storylines and contains many things to get excited for.
First written as a book in 1865, but more commonly known as a children’s movie, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland follows the story of a young, imaginative girl named Alice. Upon falling into a rabbit hole, Alice enters Wonderland, which is a peculiar place filled with odd occurrences. While exploring Wonderland, she meets many nonsensical creatures and has interesting adventures with them. She must find a way to make it home, but what challenges will she face along the way?
With this being the first performance held in the auditorium rather than the school gym, there are many differences to be expected. Director Mr. Gonzales discusses the advantages and difficulties of the change, “The biggest difficulty with the new space is simply getting used to how everything works together. For instance, having a large stage is awesome, but that also means we need more stagehands to help. The audience will definitely get to experience the updated sound and lights which will bring the story to life.”
Holly Thomason, ’25, will be playing the lead role of Alice. When asked, how she felt when she found out she earned the role of Alice, she responded by saying, “I was excited and nervous to find out I would be playing Alice as I have never played such a big role before and knew it would be a challenge.” Some of the other cast members include Jillian Garcia, ’25, as the White Rabbit, Amelia Davis, ’25, as the Mad Hatter, and Sophia Reich, ’25, as the Queen of Hearts.
This performance certainly contains much to look forward to. According to Director Mr. Gonzales, “The cast and crew are really excited to show off the new space we have. Their excitement really shows through with their performances.” Be sure to show your support for St. Edward and attend the showing of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland on Saturday, October 26th at 6:00 pm or Sunday, October 27th at 2:00 pm! Tickets for specific seats can be purchased online for $12 for adults or $7 for students and seniors, or at the door based on availability.
