Father Pacer is one of the newest faculty members at St. Edward. He has had many accomplishments to get to where he is today.
Father Pacer had an amazing childhood surrounded by his stupendous brothers. He was the oldest of his siblings; his two brothers are Tom and John. Father Pacer and his brothers are all one year apart. His dad was a coach for his middle school baseball team, in which he and his brothers participated. His dad and brothers won the Batavia championship, which he found very cool as a kid. Fr. Pacer played football alongside baseball, however, he did not play basketball as many tend to ask him. Father Pacer remembers his backyard having many trees. “I remember having lots of fun” he said. His parents were very thoughtful and kind to him and his brothers. They had a very significant impact on him at a young age. During middle school, he became more passionate about faith, and around the same time, his parents did as well. His parents helped form him into the man he is today. His parents were very open to him going into priesthood. They strongly believed in what God had planned for their son and they were always very supportive of their son’s decisions.
Father had multiple pets of various species when he was growing up. His dog growing up was a dog named Dixie; she was a German short hair pointer which is a hunting breed. Although he enjoyed having them, Father does not currently have any pets. Before going to high school, a change happened. Instead of going to Batavia he went to Marmion Academy. Later he went to Ave Maria University, which is a college in southern Florida. In college he experienced a change, he played rugby instead of football. He had great success by winning state as a junior; as another feat, they beat the University of Miami.
Father’s senior year of high school was when he experienced his first calling, during which he felt God strongly speak to him. He was on his Kairos retreat when he felt the calling during the holy hour. He kept his feelings to himself to ponder more about when he wanted to share his experience. During college at Ave Maria University, he kept getting the feeling that God wanted him to become a priest.
At one point, he did have a bit of a struggle deciding whether to marry or become a priest. He decided to go the pursuit of the Lord. After college, he took the next step and went to the seminary. There were some hardships in the process, however. The lifestyle was different and he had a few fears.
Father Pacer has some interesting hobbies. In his spare time, he likes to golf a little during the week. He says, “I have the bug for golf. I like it a lot.” He has also kept up with lifting since his high school football program. He also enjoys reading. While he was growing up, his favorite book was Lord of the Rings. His favorite book currently is Bride’s Head Revisited, which was written right after World War I. Another impressive achievement of Father’s is that in his free time, he taught himself Italian.
Father Pacer has a very eventful yet peaceful life. He has overcome many feats and gained many great outcomes, such as becoming St. Edward’s spiritual director. He fits greatly into our school’s dynamic and our courageous community of faculty and students.
