I visited four restaurants in the vicinity of St. Edward Central Catholic High School and made observations on their strengths and weaknesses. These establishments are The Walnut, Paul’s Family Restaurant, El Paraiso, and Danny’s Pizza.
The Walnut is about a 1–2-minute drive and about a 10-minute walk. This is a tavern, pub style restaurant and is good for friends and family. The service was efficient, and our food arrived promptly. Natalia Markey ’27 says, “Grilled cheese is amazing, burgers are amazing, I would definitely recommend.” The food came in big portions so it’s great to go with a group of people. Some foods were over seasoned so be cautious with that. The food was a little pricey for what was being offered.
Paul’s Family restaurant is about 7 minutes from school and is another great place for family and friends. They have neatly organized everything within the available space, and parking is great. The service is great, and everyone is seated fast unless there is a long wait. The food comes in pretty big portions but is good for one person or a group of people. The food is well in the range of what is being paid for and is well rounded for what you are receiving.
El Paraiso is only about 5 minutes from school and is a great Mexican place to stop with friends after school. They offer both dine in or take out, so it’s perfect for a quick grab. Their menu has a diverse selection of authentic Mexican dishes and has something for everyone to enjoy. Their prices are very reasonable for the food they offer and the portions you receive.
Danny’s Pizza is a small pizza place in downtown Elgin near the Centre, about a 5–7-minute drive from school. They offer a wide variety of foods, but pizza is their specialty. The pizza here tends to be on the cheesier side, which may appeal to certain tastes. This place is wonderful to go to with friends because inside it has a little music corner for people to play and listen to music while dining in.
These restaurants are all less than 10 minutes from school and are a great place to go to with friends and family.
