The 2024 Green Wave baseball team is primed to have a successful season on the diamond this upcoming spring. While their last few years have been underwhelming to say the least, the Green Wave’s coach, Darius Lugo, has big plans for this crew.
Jack Cozzi (’24), Drew Walker (’24), Joe DuSell (’25) will lead the charge for the Wave this upcoming season, as they will be the team’s Captains. Cozzi has four years of varsity baseball under his belt. He has been a key component to the team for the past four seasons. He is planning to make his commitment to play college baseball very soon. DuSell has also been a major factor in the Wave’s success, as his bat is what opposing pitchers fear the most. He also packs a punch on the mound, as his fastball hovers in the middle to high 80s. Walker has been consistent with his performance while he has been at St. Edward. He is known as the guy who “gets the job done,” whether it be with his bat or behind the plate as catcher. He is an exceptionally reliable and key player for the Wave’s success. “This team holds a lot of promise; teams won’t know what to expect,” Drew Walker stated.
There are also some fresh faces joining the Wave this season. Dominic Savini, Aurora Christian transfer, could be one of the missing links to push the Wave over the hump to their success this season. The St. Edward senior is a power-hitting third baseman/RHP who also was the Wave’s leading tackler for football. Some other key factors to the Wave’s chemistry include Josh Avila (’24), Anthony Freeman (’25), Nolan Pomeroy (’24), and Andrew Ramos (’24). They have been reliable players for the past 2-3 years for the Green Wave. The Freshman/Sophomore class for Green Wave baseball holds lots of promise for this upcoming season, along with years to come. Zach Wojtas, Burlington Central transfer, is a sophomore OF/MIF that displays a “slick” glove throughout all positions and is looking to make a case for himself this upcoming season. Anthony Leadley (’27) also likes to flash the leather on the diamond as he is another reliable defender for the Green Wave.
With this group of guys, the Green Wave will take the field with this year. It is looking to be a very promising season for Darius Lugo and the Green Wave.
